This was a book that kept me highly engaged! It was a quick read; however, it was very informative. I have read quite a bit about ancient Mesopotamia, yet this work had some of the most detailed information I have yet read on certain cultural elements (clothes, diet, and gender roles) prevalent in the region. "Chapter 3" is golden! The sections on Babylonian medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and astrology were all interesting; however, the section on the zodiac was revolutionary! It never ceases to amaze me how much the Modern World, often lazily, gives credit to the ancient Greeks. Perhaps this book will put into perspective how much the Greeks learned from those peoples who were ancient even to them. "Chapter 4" to "Chapter 9" offer a scintillating overview of ancient Mesopotamian history. "Chapter 10" displays an overview of Babylonian mythology and "Chapter 11" offers a quick summary of the "Biblical Babylonians." This work is great!

If you love early civilization in the fertile crescent this is a great book. It follows the town Babylon, the city, the city-state, and finally the Babylonian Empire - the third oldest ever. It is a complicated time and region in history. I usually get overloaded trying to read some professor's tome to only give up frustrated. This is pretty concise and easily understood. I am gradually reading all these type of books covering this time period and this region which works great for me also. It beats trying and failing to read something way over my head. Good read that fills in a lot of blanks.

I thought this book was interesting and informative before all I knew about Babylon is what I read in the Bible and the Bible is not really a history book so the information on Babylon is scant and just relates to the Jews. If you read this book you will find their origins, how they grew from a small city or state to an empire, their religion, social structure, etc. So if you want to know more about the Babylonians than what the Bible tells you then this is a good book to read.

An informative read on the history of Babylon. From when it was a village to when it was at its peak and beyond. You learn a lot reading these series of books about civilizations that have come and gone.

An interesting look at the life and culture of a small piece of the "Middle East" before it was the "Middle East". Rulers, laws, life and beliefs of Babylon.

A fascinating overview of this ancient Kingdom. A wonderful read for history buffs like myself.

Very informative and well researched book on the Fertile Crescent. Would highly recommend.
